Pouch Cell manufacturing Equipment
  • 2023-06-09

Pouch Cell manufacturing Equipment refers to the machinery and tools used in the production process of soft pack lithium-ion batteries. These devices aim to automate and simplify the various steps involved in the manufacturing process of soft pack batteries, including electrode preparation, battery assembly, and battery testing. Some common types of soft pack battery manufacturing equipment include:

Electrode Coating Machine: This equipment typically consists of a coating head that applies the electrode materials (such as cathode and anode slurries) onto the current collectors. The coated collectors are then fed through a series of drying ovens or chambers to remove solvents and dry the electrode films. The machine also includes a winding mechanism that collects the coated electrode film onto spools or rolls for further processing.

Electrode Slitting Machine: After the electrode materials are coated and dried, the electrode slitting machine is used to slit the wide electrode film into narrower strips. This process ensures precise widths that meet the specific requirements of the cell design. Slitting machines can utilize various cutting methods, such as rotary blades or laser cutting, to achieve accurate and clean slits.

Pouch cell sealing machine: The cell stacking machine automates the assembly of pouch cells by stacking the positive and negative electrodes, along with separator films and electrolyte-soaked porous membranes, in a precise sequence. This equipment may employ robotic arms or mechanical systems to handle and position the layers accurately. It ensures consistent alignment and uniformity of the cell components.

Cell Sealing Machine: Once the electrode layers are stacked, the pouch cell sealing machine is used to create a hermetic seal around the edges of the pouch. The machine applies heat and pressure to melt and bond the pouch layers together, ensuring a reliable and leak-proof seal. Some sealing machines may also incorporate laser or ultrasonic sealing technologies for enhanced sealing integrity.

Tab Welding Machine: Tabs, which are extensions of the current collectors, are welded to the external terminals or leads of the pouch cell for electrical connections. Tab welding machines use various welding techniques such as resistance welding or laser welding to bond the tabs securely to the terminals. The welding parameters can be precisely controlled to achieve consistent and reliable connections.

Formation and Aging Equipment: Formation equipment is used to subject the assembled pouch cells to charge and discharge cycles, conditioning them to stabilize their electrochemical performance. This process helps optimize the cell's capacity and improves its long-term stability. Aging equipment is used to test the cells over an extended period to assess their performance, reliability, and durability under simulated operating conditions.

Cell Testing and Sorting Equipment: Various tests are performed on the finished pouch cells to evaluate their electrical and electrochemical properties. Cell testing equipment includes systems for measuring the cell's capacity, voltage characteristics, impedance, and other parameters. Sorting equipment is used to categorize cells based on specific criteria, such as capacity, voltage tolerance, or internal resistance, ensuring that cells meet the desired quality standards.

Safety Testing Equipment: To ensure the safety of pouch cells, specialized equipment is employed to perform safety tests. These tests simulate extreme conditions such as crushing, nail penetration, or exposure to high temperatures to evaluate the cell's response and safety features. The equipment helps identify potential risks and ensures compliance with safety regulations.

These are some of the key components and functionalities of pouch cell manufacturing equipment. The specific features, capabilities, and configurations may vary based on the equipment manufacturer and the specific requirements of the battery production process.
